Below are some ideas to get you started if you want to complete a project with a group.

Body Wash Drive

Support a local, youth homeless shelter by purchasing full-size, scented body wash from the dollar store and attaching notes of cheer such as "Have a Wonderful Day!" to them.  Did you know youth love to own body wash, since they are not able to leave a bar of soap in a shower of their own?

No Sew Fleece Blankets

Two pieces of  fleece, tied together, creates a blanket that provides warmth and love to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.  Read more about Project Linus by clicking HERE.

Volunteers Collecting Trash on Beach

Clean Up

As the snow melts in Savage, we might find trash along our roads, trails, and in our parks.  Gather a group to walk around and clean up any litter you find. Don't forget to report your time and tell us which park so we can check it off the list.

Happy Children

Random Acts of Kindness

Set aside an hour to perform random acts of kindness around our city.  Hold the door open for others, ask offer to help a neighbor or stranger, make a card of appreciation to our police or postal department, pay for someone's meal, give people compliments...The possibilities to spread cheer and help others are endless!

Food Drive

Host a food drive to collect non-perishable food items to benefit those in your community. Collect for a week, then bring items to City Hall on Saturday, or the library during the week. Have contests to help increase your collections or ask neighbors for donations.

Donate Gently Used Items

Host a collection drive for gently used books, coins, or other items we are collecting at City Hall on Service Day Saturday. Just by joining with a few other people, you're sure to get quite the collection to donate. Every bit makes a difference and your old treasures can be new treasures to someone else.

Decorate Paper Lunch Bags

Did you know that Meals on Wheels delivers thousands of meals in plain paper lunch bags every week to home bound recipients? Imagine how happy someone would be to receive a colorful, decorated bag.  Grab some crayons, stickers, and wirte a message of cheer.  These bags can be purchased at Walmart or Sam's Club and you'll have fun decorating them!

PROJECT IDEAS To Do On Your Own

Make Sandwiches for the Homeless

A simple sandwich made of bread, lunch meat, and cheese provides nourishment for homeless adults each night.  These sandwiches are hand delivered by an amazing man who donates his time to help others.  Get a group of people together to make sandwiches in your home or office, then drop off at several metro locations. Learn more by clicking HERE.

Make or Purchase Cards for Active Military Personnel

Our military enjoys receiving cards of appreciation, and also receiving blank cards they can send to their loved ones.  Take a trip to the dollar store to purchase an assortment of cards to donate, and also make some cards of appreciation. A local chapter of Blue Star Mothers can send your cards overseas.
