Sharing our Time, Talents, or Treasures to Make our World Better

In 2015, the first, official, Day of Service in the city of Savage was proclaimed by Mayor Williams. A fifth-grader at Harriet Bishop Elementary School in Savage came up with the idea to have a city-wide day of Service to promote unity and service, regardless of age. This event encourages businesses, youth groups, faith groups, families, and all other residents to attend a Service Fair on the city campus, host a donation drive, or volunteer on their own. All Service Day activities are free, thanks to our sponsors

In 2019, pre-Covid, over 1200 people attended the event, and over 10,000 people locally, nationally, or globally were helped because of Service Day Saturday's collections and efforts. Next year (202)5, there will be designated activities throughout the city campus (including City Hall, the library, senior housing, and the police and fire stations, and more).  Visitors will be encouraged to travel from station to station, as they participate in brief, hands-on volunteer activities. All participants will receive a commemorative wristband, which they are encouraged to wear the entire weekend when they are out and about so others can recognize they were part of this event. Wristbands also can be used for a fee weekend pass to Lifetime Fitness.

DUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCE REQUIREMENTS AND COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, THIS EVENT BECAME A DRIVE-UP AND DROP-OFF EVENT. WE STILL HELPED THOUSANDS THROUGH OUR EFFORTS AND WILL CONTINUE THAT FORMAT AGAIN THIS YEAR.
